With the jitters from El Ninyo many broadacre
farmers had some hay on the ground when the heavy October rains came. This
will generally become a lower grade on farm reserve.
Some very good hay has been subsequently cut with prices ranging from about
$ l00/t to $150/t on growers farms. This goes from grass dominant or cereal
hay at the lower end, to pure clover or lucerne at the upper
Within our closer freight area we have the bulk of offerings as heavy 5x4
rolls with a strong use of feedtesting Some sellers are also using the
Australian Fodder Industry vendor declaration forms to give buyers a clearer
picture of weed content, spray and fertiliser history & cutting &
baling dates. This looks like becoming standard practice, at least for
better grade hay, and will help put an overdue selling standard into hay
trading.
Agistment - We have several farmers who are still open to more agistment
stock. Some plains farmers are seeing specialty agistment as a sensible
alternative enterprise. Contact us for details.
Prime lamb sires, Beef bulls & Dog breeders, Fencing, Harvesting -
We can help with queries on sources of these. Many of the breeders are
listed in our Contractors & Services Guide, which we are building up
to give a single source of information for farmers in this & adjoining
areas A revised edition of this is currently being set up for distribution
through our circulation of the plains. Please advise the Business Centre
if you would like to be included in our next issue.
A Listing in this guide costs $20 for the year and puts your product or
service in a permanent reference. The guide will also be accessible through
Camperdown Bulletin Board service ph. 55 933555 to log straight in - via
computer modem.
The Bulletin Board is carrying progressively more agricultural information
and has great possibilities for providing quickly updated information from
Ag Dept. Vets, Milk Factories, Shire & Feed suppliers.
